Het DNA van de Pinot Noir, een van de oudste wijndruiven ter wereld, is ontrafeld.

Franse en Italiaanse onderzoekers hebben in de Pinot Noir druif 13 verschillende genen ontdekt die voor het onderscheidende karakter van deze vermaarde wijndruif zorgen.

De druif heeft 30.434 eiwitcoderende genen. Niet onverwacht blijkt een groot gedeelte van de eiwitten betrokken bij de productie van geur- en smaakstoffen. Zo’n 43 genen zijn betrokken bij de productie van resveratrol, de stof waaraan gezondheidsbevorderende eigenschappen bij een matige consumptie worden toegeschreven.
